Bible Translation Seminar – Saturday, 21st May 2022, 10.30am
A Defence of the Received Text with Pastor David Ellsmore.
10.30am. Runs over two sessions with lunch provided (Please book your lunch by emailing skelmersdalebaptist@gmail.com by Sunday 15th May.)
Using primarily a power-point presentation, Pastor Ellsmore will introduce the subject and underline its importance for today.
The presentation will explain the different Greek texts being used today and demonstrate how they came into existence. It will also show the development of the modern texts and illustrate how they came into existence. A key feature will be the comparison between the Authorised Version and the most popular of the modern English versions, and an explanation of the many theological problems that have arisen by the proliferation of these translations. The level of manuscript support for these modern versions will be examined and this session will demonstrate how believers and local churches are being adversely affected by modern renderings that enjoy only the scantiest of manuscript evidence.
The presentation will include many pictures of extent manuscripts and other relevant material.
The seminar will conclude with an explanation of the reason for “archaic” or “outmoded” words used by the translators of the King James or Authorised version of the Bible.
Books & information will be available for purchase.
